Clean your safety shoes!

To make sure your safety shoes last a long time, you have to look after them and clean them regularly with the right products! The cleaning products you use depend on the material your shoes are made of.

Depending on your job and your work environment, your safety shoes are exposed to various risks:

  • Risks associated with your environment: dust, rubble, paint and other particles.
  • Weather-related risks: sweat, cold, rain and puddles, mud, etc.
  • Risks associated with your actions: falls, various impacts, puncture, slipping, uncomfortable positions

This combination of factors accelerates the wear and tear of your footwear: scratches, abrasions, deterioration of upper components, reduced sole effectiveness, reduced waterproofing, early end of life. It is therefore essential you look after your shoes properly to ensure the comfort and safety you need to work in the best possible conditions.

1. Clean the outside of your safety shoes depending on the material

Smooth leather:

Smooth leather is a flexible leather that can be sensitive to external attack. To protect it, it is important to regularly apply a waterproofing product and a beauty cream.

Before wearing a pair of smooth leather shoes, remember to waterproof them with a product designed for this purpose. Waterproofing prevents liquids such as rainwater from entering the shoe. This action must be repeated regularly to protect your Parade shoes. Protection fades over time!

A beauty cream is a moisturising cream for shoes, which will nourish the leather and keep it shiny. To clean your Parade shoes, use a soft cloth to remove the dust. Then apply the beauty cream in a circular motion. Choose the colour that best matches your shoes. If in doubt, use a colourless cream.

Suede:

This leather has been sanded, giving it a fluffy effect. To protect suede, we recommend applying a waterproofing spray to your Parade shoes before wearing them. You can repeat the waterproofing operation every month. Be careful to only apply a thin layer so the pores of the leather can breathe.

To clean your shoes, brush them regularly with a soft bristle brush to remove dirt and dust. Above all, don't apply beauty cream to your shoes - you could damage them!

Split leather:

Split leather is the layer of leather obtained when the hide is split to the desired thickness. Most often, this layer is coated with varnish or polyurethane and 'printed' to simulate full-grain leather. To clean split leather, we strongly recommend using a soft brush to remove dust, then apply a waterproofing spray. Use of a rubber brush should be exceptional, as it can damage the surface of the leather. Also, don't use shoe polish as it can clog the fibres.

Fabric:

You can't put your shoes in the washing machine, so clean them with a damp cloth without using chemical products. Leave the fabric to dry in the open air, avoiding direct contact with the sun.

2. Don't forget the inside of your shoes!

For hygiene reasons, you must clean the outside of your shoes. But it's also very important to look after the inside too, because your comfort is at stake!

We recommend spraying your soles with a deodorant every day after you get in from work or on a regular basis. Daily use of the spray will neutralise unpleasant odours and have an antibacterial action that will eliminate or reduce the development of parasitic fungi.

As you can see, safety shoe care is very important to ensure that your shoes last longer, so don't neglect this step!
